ABOUT #BuySingLit

#BuySingLit is an industry-led movement to celebrate stories from Singapore.  Advocating ‘Buy Local, Read Our World’, homegrown book publishers, retailers and literary non-profits have come together to encourage more people to discover and embrace Singapore’s literature. Through buying and reading local works, you support the writers who bear witness to our lives, as well as the businesses in our community that deliver these stories to us. Most of all, you will experience the profound joy of unravelling the multi-faceted world around you.

A Letter from the Working Committee

Bringing people together through Singapore literature

Dear readers,

We are a group of people who love SingLit. We love stories by writers who have grown up with us and who live amongst us, sharing our lives and dreams — and our fears. We love the magic of being transported to another world through words and language. We want to share this love with you, which is why we started the #BuySingLit movement back in 2017. Over the past three years, more and more people have come to experience and love SingLit through the movement. We are back again for the fourth year this March, as we seek to grow an appreciation for SingLit and make SingLit accessible for everyone.

We are joined by many dedicated partners who have put a lot of thought and creativity into organising events inspired by their favourite works of SingLit. They have created different literary experiences for you to see, learn, touch, and even taste.

From book fair havens to writers buffet, literary trails and transforming our landmarks into SingLit-inspired playgrounds, these events will dazzle, stir, excite and move you as you witness SingLit coming to life in numerous playful and dynamic ways!

Explore the exciting line-up of #BuySingLit 2020, which will unfurl from 6-8 and 13-15 March. You are invited to attend as many events as you can, and to share these experiences with your family, friends, and loved ones. #BuySingLit will be Singapore’s first literary movement of the new decade — and the perfect opportunity for you to forge wonderful memories and discover new books and stories.

We hope you will join the ever-expanding community of SingLit lovers. Also, we want to hear your stories! If you feel inspired, moved or rejuvenated by the events you attend let us know by tagging us (@buysinglit) on Facebook and Instagram. After all, a good story should always be shared.

Sincerely,
#BuySingLit Working Committee
