Description

SingLit comes to life through a dramatised reading of acclaimed playwright Jean Tay’s new stage adaptation of Charmaine Leung’s book, 17A Keong Saik Road. In her memoir, Leung recounts her formative years on Keong Saik Road in the 1970s when it was a prominent red-light precinct. Tracing her story as a brothel operator’s daughter and the transformation of the neighbourhood from the 1930s to the present, Leung finds reconciliation with the past through her writing.

Tay is adapting stories from this book into a theatrical script, with Leung as a story consultant. Directed by award-winning director Koh Hui Ling, this dramatised reading will be the inaugural presentation of the script to the public. There will be a dialogue session with the playwright, author, director, and actors after each reading.
