16 May, 2pm – 2.55pm: Webcomics 101 Lecture with Evacomics (Eva Wong)
In this interactive lecture, Eva will share practical advice and tips based on her extensive career in webcomics. Topics covered include popular webcomic platforms and tools, how to brainstorm for ideas, how to overcome writer’s block, and how to target an audience. She will also demonstrate the tools and software she uses to manage her webcomics workflow. Participants are encouraged to prepare questions beforehand.

16 May, 3pm – 3.55pm: Dance and Gesture drawing Workshop with Vann Law
In dance, participants will learn body coordination, isolation and rhythm. You understand how limbs interact as the body weight shifts from one foot to another. By studying dance moves, participants will understand what goes on behind a pose before it is translated onto paper. In this workshop, Vann will be approaching several dance poses, studying their videos/images and breaking them down into their basic components to understand what gives a dance move power or grace. At the end of the session, tips on how to improve your gesture drawing will also be shared.

16 May, 4pm – 4.55pm: Comics panelling with Alan Bay
Panel design and planning is one of the most important steps in the creation of comic books, or any multiple-panel sequential art. In this workshop, comic artist and exanimator Alan Bay will share details of his unique approach to visual storytelling and guide participants through a simple exercise in comics panelling. Recommended for experienced illustrators and artists looking to take their storytelling skills to the next level.

16 May, 5pm – 5.55pm: Character Design with Zaki Ragman
Comic artist and arts educator Zaki Ragman introduces the basics of character design for comic books. Learn about the building blocks that make up an iconic character, and how they can be applied in different stories and formats. In this workshop, participants will be guided through a character drawing exercise and given personalised tips on how to improve their creative process.

17 May, 2pm – 2.55pm: Meet the Creators
Work in progress update on new book, Sacred Guardians by Aydeel Djoeharie and Alan Bay. The book is a work of fiction by the creators of Singa: Sacred Guardians, a Tokusatsu series based in sunny Singapore. The Sacred Guardians comic book is a prequel to the upcoming television series, where viewers will be introduced to the ancient lore of these beloved heroes.

17 May, 3pm – 3.55pm: Comic book launch of Elizabeth Choy: Her Story
Author: Danny Jalil; Illustrator: Zaki Ragman
In this all-new graphic novel adaptation, find out how Elizabeth Choy grew to become the person who would endure such an experience, and into the larger-than-life hero we know today. How did she end up on the tiny island of Singapore, when her childhood home was in the lush forests of North Borneo (now Sabah)? Through this book, readers would get a glimpse into the tenacious and compassionate character that was Elizabeth Choy. She was not just a war heroine, but also a respected community leader, beloved teacher and a mother. She was someone that truly deserves to be admired.
